Legacy
by Yocheved Golani
Mercenary Australian and Indonesian soldiers invade a US military stronghold in the Pacific, in order to steal an experimental craft that could decisively secure freedom and safety for East Timorese residents of Indonesia. Unknown to the interlopers, a pair of anti-democratic and anti-Israel Iraqi nationals pose as sympathizers to the East Timorese cause in order to implement one specific act of biological terrorism against the USA. The double agents threaten the immediate vicinity as well as points distant to the US military's Andersen Air Force Base on Guam.
Widower and Native American Colonel Jack Bowstring, USMC, a fictitious official in the US Marine Corps and Naval Investigative Services, vigorously protects the United States from the terrorist efforts to steal cutting-edge military technology and weaponry. At the same time, Bowstring dismantles the myth of the "Palestinian People" while defending Israel's right to exist, from his military post in the Pacific. Assisted by men and women of various ethnic backgrounds and a bi-racial youngster, Bowstring and company contend with the elements as Super Typhoon Paka wreaks havoc on the island of Guam.
Legacy entertains readers with subtle romance, political intrigue, and the unchecked advances of technology and the abuses of cyberspace. The manuscript presents actual discussions amongst high-ranking American officials vis a vis fighting terrorism (the material was supplied by the University of Maryland at College Park), and a plausible context in which sociopathic haters of Israel and the US can threaten the well-being of unsuspecting millions. Cooperative terrorism - a partnership of convenience among cutthroat sociopaths and mercenary soldiers - is of major concern to public officials as evidence mounts of such actual activity.
Readers follow Bowstring's encrypted messages to an apparently offshore and helpful colleague, and the unseen footsteps of a woman who answers to no one as she appears at every critical juncture of the story. One of the surprises to readers of the story is the revelation that the mysterious woman is Daniella Ben-Zev, an Israeli agent sympathetic to the problem at hand -- the recipient of Bowstring's communiques.
Praised by author and critic Michael Medved as "intriguing and original - this novel entertains while touching on serious issues," Legacy is accurate in its prediction of how certain political problems would play out. My manuscript is a tale of political, social, and military interest, portraying the ramifications of past political upheavals and oversights on present-day realities. The merit of my research and content should impress perceptive critics, and generate additional sales to readers seeking an engaging, instructive story. Action/espionage tales are not commonly considered to be the purview of female writers, and that is part of Legacy's cachet. Readers and critics will likely be impressed that a woman wrote such an interesting and realistic story.
A 100,000-word mainstream novel, Legacy targets a broad audience: readers of Clancy and Follett, plus crossover romance and mystery readers.
